Marcio Takeda | Saray Kebab

00:00 / 01:37

When we did the show in Barranquilla, an art critic said that even if no one had told her anything about the Nippon América 日本アメリカ photographers, she would have known that Marcio’s pictures were taken by a Brazilian because in his pictures Tokyo looks like Brazil.

Pointing specifically at this picture, she said: “Look, this is what I am talking about. I had never seen a kebab shop or a black person in a picture of Japan. Unlike Paris, or Berlin or London, if you look at pictures of Tokyo, it would seem that there are only Japanese people there.”

This picture was taken on August 15, at a Turkish kebabs and norimaki kebab shop in Hyakunincho, at
89 F.
