Marcio Takeda | The Bon Odori at Hibiya Park

00:00 / 01:57

The Bon Odori are dance festivals where people gather to commemorate their ancestors who, according to the Buddhist tradition of Odon, come to visit the earth during this season.

A tower is built at the center of the site where musicians play taiko drums and speakers play the regional song of the festival while people dance in circle around the tower.

This picture, taken on August 23, shows four friends sitting in front of the circle of people who danced at Hibiya Park, not far away from Tokyo’s Imperial Palace.
